Deep Enough to Dream
This brings me to the end of my summer hiatus on this blog. I hope you have enjoyed the dream music and the thoughts that I have offered over the past few months. I hope your summer was a good one. I hope mine was too. And now it's time for a decision. I'm still thinking. Maybe I should dream a bit more and let you know in the next post what I will be doing at A Faraway View...
Did you enjoy my summer music series on this blog? Was there any particular post that was a favorite? Would you like to see more music posts with short text here at A Faraway View?

Ordinary World
The dream world is an extraordinary place that defies logic and all to which we are accustomed. There are the inklings that hint at reality and threads that seem to connect us to the world we know. In a dream, we might feel secure, reluctant to wake up into the ordinary world. Dreams don't last forever, but they are like vacations from waking life.
Does 'dream ordinary' seem the same as what you see as ordinary in your waking life? Do you ever wish that the extraordinary world of your dreams would become your normal existence? When your dreams reflect your everyday existence do you remember them less?

Hypnotized
I've always wanted to be hypnotized. When I was about twelve I had a book about hypnotism. In this book there were instructions about how to hypnotize oneself. I was never able to accomplish it. At least not that I know of. I've been been in hypnotic situations, but I don't think I've ever been to the point of auto-suggestion. Still, I'd like to be hypnotized to see what it is like.
Have you ever been hypnotized? Have you ever tried to hypnotize yourself? Do you believe that hypnotism actually works?

Nightmare
Have you ever woken up screaming? I'm not particularly prone to nightmares--at least not the wake up screaming variety. My version of nightmares are typically more akin to watching a horror film--scary, but somewhat interesting entertainment. There are dreams that may waken me into what is a very uneasy state, but those are not the terror type dreams that leave me shaking and afraid. My version of nightmares leave me more worried or paranoid than terrified.
Are you prone to having frightening nightmares? What scares you in a dream? Have you ever been tormented by frequent recurring nightmares?

Hot Summer Day
Dreamy hot summer day music might be just the ticket for today's mind excursion. When I first discovered It's A Beautiful Day in the early 70's, it was like a musical dream come true. Melodic well arranged music featuring an electric violin. This is a favorite group of mine from that era. Great stuff. Happy hot summer day dreaming!
Are you a fan of It's A Beautiful Day? Do you like hearing violin featured in rock music? What's the weather like where you are today?

Reverie
A reverie is a state of dreamy meditation. Impressionistic composer Claude Debussy was the master of dreamy meditative music. Here is a short piece--an orchestrated version of a piece originally written for piano. If you're looking for good music for contemplation and relaxation, Debussy's music might be just what you are looking for.
Are you familiar with the music of Claude Debussy? Do you like the music and visual art from the impressionistic period? What is your favorite relaxation music?

Circle Sky Moon Mix
There's a fire tower sitting up on Rich Mountain above Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. You have to hike to get there. It's been many years since I've been to that place. I used to have dreams about fire towers. In the early 70's a very fine country rock music group called Rich Mountain Tower put out a few albums. Sadly they remained fairly obscure.
Have you ever visited a fire tower? Are you afraid of heights? Do you have dreams about being in high places or falling?

On My Way Home
I'm not sure where to say I am when this posts. I may be on my way home or I may be home--at least my mother's house, a place that feels like home to me. There's a special feeling about visiting the places of younger day. Somehow having the music of that time accompanying those visits seems appropriate.
Is there certain music you associate with the places of your younger days? When you visit those places do you tend to listen to any of that music?

I'm Only Dreaming
Sometimes my dreams are so special, so wonderful that I am disappointed to find that I'm only dreaming. Waking up from those dreams can be such a let down and yet waking life must go on. Then there are those daydreams. Are they a waste of time?
Do you ever wake from a dream that you wish was real? Are you a daydreamer? Do you think daydreaming is a frivolous waste of time?

Technicolor Dreams
Some say they only dream in black and white, while others say they dream in color. My dreams are definitely in color. I'm a big fan of black and white movies, but I'd hate for my world to only be in black and white.
Do you dream in color? Does color ever play a specific role in your dreams? Do your dreams consist of highly defined visual images or are they more vague and shadowy?

What To Do? It's in the Music
Here's a spacey dreamy song from 1975. I used to just lay back in a reverie listening to this song when I was living in a cabin in the mountains. I think this is a beautiful melancholy song that my mind can drift along with. The fantasy artwork images on the video are pretty dreamlike too.
Are there times when you're just not sure where you're going in life or what you should do? Does music bring out the best in you and keep you company?

Music to Dream By: Gymnopedies No. 2
French Impressionistic composer Eric Satie wrote a series of three piano pieces he called "Gymnopedies". This is some of the dreamiest music around. Here is an orchestral version of the second of the series. The music is accompanied by some wondrous visuals.
I hope you enjoy.
Eric Satie "Gymnopedies No. 2" (@1888)
Are you familiar with the Three Gymnopedies of Eric Satie? Do you like the music of the Impressionism movement (Debussy & Ravel are most commonly associated with the movement)? What kinds of music do you find to be the most dreamlike?
