Knowing (film) (Photo credit: Wikipedia) |
I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a big Nicolas Cage fan. He's got plenty of detractors and I'm not sure why. I've enjoyed all of the films that I've seen him in and there have been quite a few. Knowing (2009) also gets a bad rap in my opinion. I think it's a fun ride with an interesting premise.
The film has a pall of moodiness hanging over it that makes it dreamlike from beginning to end. The story and effects are so bizarre yet conceivable that they sucked me right into the kind of world that I sometimes pass through in my sleep. And what can I say about the ending? I won't say much of anything so I don't give anything away, but that ending was definitely dreamlike.
Have you seen Knowing? Do you like Nicolas Cage? Are films that involve spiritual themes annoying to you?
Hi Arlee,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the note about "Knowing"
This is new information to me.
Thanks
Philip
I loved him in Raising Arizona and Moonstruck, but apart from that I can't say i'm a huge fan of his.
ReplyDeleteNicolas Cage is strange. I can't say I am a fan, but his movies are always really interesting. Face Off is one of my favorite movies. He was kind of hot in that movie as Castor Troy.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Nicholas Cage fan, too, Lee, from his early films. He has chutzpah or something similar. What he does, he does well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for not including spoilers. . .
PV -- Knowing is a very spiritual film.
ReplyDeleteJoJo -- I thought Raising Arizona was very funny.
Sydney -- Maybe I like Nicolas Cage because he is kind of strange--or different. He's kind of quirky in a fun way I think.
DG -- I just don't understand why Cage gets such a bad rap from so many.

I haven't seen this movie but I have a "thing" about dreams so I may need to see it. As for Nicholas Cage...I don't think I have an opinion one way or another.
ReplyDeleteI too, like Nic Cage! I do like dreamy films, but haven't ever heard of "Knowing." I don't mind spiritual themes either, depending on how "preachy" they are...
ReplyDeleteMy Fav Nic Cage movie is Moonstruck!
ReplyDeletePatricia -- People are sharply divided on this film, but I think it's well worth viewing.
ReplyDeleteLisa --This film delves more into ideas and doesn't really preach. I liked Moonstruck but I haven't seen it since it first came out. I guess that was over 20 years ago!
