Erik Satie

I had so many choices for the letter "S".   It could have been one of my favorites Franz Schubert.  Igor Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" surely could rank as dream music.   Or in modern music I could have gone with great groups like Spirit, Spanky and Our Gang, Strawberry Alarm Clock, or even Santana.  Solo artists like Frank Sinatra, Carly Simon, Paul Simon, or Selena also might have been considered.

Erik Satie (1866-1925) croppedImage via Wikipedia        In the final analysis, it had to be Erik Satie.   Part of the impressionist movement, precursor to the minimalist movement, Satie's music is at times quirky and at other times hauntingly beautiful.  Always dreamlike though.  Satie wrote music to dream by.

  4. Definitely "dream music", BOID, and a very good video to go with it.

(I really love 'Spanky And Our Gang' but I can't think of anything they did that would qualify as "dream music". But then you might know more of their stuffs than I do.)

  7. Bish -- Satie has received his critical due I think, and deservedly so.

    Yvonne -- Thanks

Tracy -- I could listen to all three of the Gymnopedies repeatedly and drift off into dreams.

StMc -- Spanky and Our Gang would probably be one of those sounds from my past that connect me to my personal dreams more than creating a dream-like atmosphere. They did a wonderfully dream-like versions of Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne" and the classic "Stardust". They had a great sound.

Bethie -- The titles of Satie's pieces are great fun, as is the music.

Sara -- The images used in the video are very lovely.
