The Band

Cover of "The Band"Cover of The Band

There's something about the ragged, rootsy sound of The Band that takes me back to a place of memories and musings in the same way that dreams often do.  The Band's premiere album amazed me when I discovered it in the record section of the J.C. Penney store in the Midland Shopping Center and their second album was equal to the first.  These still rank as two of my all time favorite albums.

The song "Whispering Pines" is true dream music--one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded in my opinion.   Listening to this song can put me in a reverie and evoke past moments that are disassociated from any specific time in my memory.   I never tire of hearing this song and it never fails to move me in the deepest part of where my dreams are born.

I had no clue who 'The Band' was but when I looked them up and gave them a listen on spotify, I instantly recognised the song 'The Weight', going to listen to some more, they have a great sound, ideal for listening to in the sunshine.

Hey, Lee,
Have you ever heard "One Stormy Night" by the Mystic Moods Orchestra? It is one cool record. I had a copy of it back in the 70's and it finally would not play any more. I found it on the internet just last year and it is so wonderful to listen to, especially if you like the sound of thunder and rain.

Absolutely one of the best groups ever. My husband wants Whisper Pines played at his funeral.

I have to admit, I'd never heard of The Band before. I liked the song, and the video.

I am visiting you from the A-Z Challenge website and I wanted to stop and say hi.

I haven't heard this group before, but I'm glad you shared it with me. I am a musician and recognise the quality of the song. The haunting lead vocalist is the stuff of dreams, literally! He sounds a little like Randy Newman (I was put in mind of Toy Story in places through the song) and it is LOVELY. A great share :)

I never heard of The Band but your post makes me want to listen to that Whispers song, just to see if it can help ease my insomnia...and now I want to visit a JC Penny store, as if I need a new purse, lol.

I've been around music and dance most of my life and I know how important it is for a singer to let raw emotion show. It can not be bottled up. These guys are not afraid to let the feelings out.

BOIDMAN, don't it make ya feel "OLD" when readers write: "I never heard of 'The Band' before."

I know it does me. Never heard of 'The Band'? Who am I, Methuselah?

Of course, in most cases, the same people who have never heard of 'The Band' wouldn't know who Methuselah was either.
