A to Z Theme Reveal: Elements of Dreams

Dreams are about so many things.  Everything and anything that we see, hear, experience or think of on a daily basis can enter our dreams.  The dream world is the realm of the subconscious where things and occurrences can be symbols for something else just as much as just be whatever they are in our waking lives.

In this blog A Faraway View I explore many topics about dreams or anything that is dreamlike.  For the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge of 2015 we will be getting to some of the basics of the substance of dreams as we explore "The Elements of Dreams".   What are some of the themes and objects experienced in our sleep visions?     We'll be looking at some of the common subject matter of dreams as well as some of the general themes that pop up in most of our dreams.

In April we'll explore the archetypes of the dream world.   Whether they be universal symbols of a common collective consciousness or the personal iconology of our inner selves, what we dream about typically has a pattern that once translated can help us to understand what our dreams are telling us.

The "Elements" theme will be one that will be shared on all of my blogs in April, examining the elements of blogging, memoir, and spirituality.  These other blogs are:

I look forward to hearing your thoughts about these posts.   To visit other blogs that are revealing their themes at this time please visit The Theme Reveal Blogfest Linky List.  My post has gone up a bit early to stay in keeping with my normal blogging schedule for this blog.  Most of the links should take you to the Theme Reveal post on Monday March 23rd.

Do you like to analyze your dreams?   Do you have trouble remembering your dreams?   Have you ever attempted to keep a dream journal?

  1. That sounds interesting! I'm looking forward to reading your posts. I do have trouble remember my dreams these days. I have kept dream journals in the past. About 10 years ago I went through a period of extremely vivid dreams that I was able to remember and write down. I still have vivid dreams but they fade when I wake up.

    1. If you're like I am you probably have things you start doing and that are on your mind for the day ahead. Remembering dreams requires a leisurely time of contemplation and recall and the dreams usually have to be written down right away. Rarely can I remember much of a dream later without having recorded it or at least thought about it for a while.

  4. I look forward to your April blogs Arlee - terrific theme one that I'm also doing and working on - dreams come from the unconscious which is a treasure house if we take the time and trouble - and contemplation as you say - and give them the attention that is their due.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the new moon and the solar eclipse tonight as well as the equinox tomorrow.

    1. I missed the eclipse but noted that it happened when I opened the internet this morning. Today should be a beautiful spring opening in Los Angeles.

  5. Hi Arlee...How I have missed this as being one of your blogs, I don't know, but am certainly glad to have discovered you are a 'Dreamer'. I should have known that just from reading your other blogs. At any rate, I'm adding A Faraway View to my AtoZ Blog Roll and look forward to your posts.

As to your questions...I do remember many of my dreams, but seldom try to analyze them. They are rarely about me or anyone I know, and yes, I have kept a journal....just in case one of the unknowns is in my future...or from my past.

    1. Interesting that you wouldn't know anyone in your dreams. If you ever do meet one of those dream unknowns I'd like to hear about it.

  6. I've never really analysed my dreams, although it does become quite obvious if they are stress induced :S. My husband decided to tell me all about his dream yesterday morning which involved teleporting, secret agent cats trying to blow up some enemy base - he was one of the cats :).

  7. I have been keeping a dream journal for a couple of years, but I mostly write in it when I dream up stories or fragments of stories. I am curious what you will post about! Cool theme :)

    1. I used to faithfully keep a dream journal. Now if I record anything it's on my blog.

  8. I never know about dreams. I know its important that we dream, even if we don't remember them, but I don't know about trying to analyze them. I've had series of dreams when I was involved in hospitality at church (providing snacks between services) where I would either run out of food, take forever to get the food set up, that type of thing. I figured I was processing my anxiety about doing it through dreams. As I got comfortable doing hospitality, those dreams subsided. Lately I've had dreams of not being able to get anything accomplished, taking forever to do a report for work, etc., but this is a pretty stress free time on all fronts, so not sure where those dreams are coming from. So I just don't know :)

Again, I admire you for tackling so many blogs for the challenge :)

  9. I'm a bit late reading your reveal post, Lee. There are so many good themes coming up, I'm going to be tempted to spend time reading, when I had hoped to free up some time for writing. Sue (Thanks for visiting my reveal post at Sue’s Trifles )
